One day, historians will write the history of the Cochise County groundwater wars. They’re sure to say something like this:
“A groundswell of everyday people rose up, starting in the parched summer of 2023.
”A super-majority of Cochise County residents got behind participatory democracy. They left behind the lie of representative democracy. The people saw–and knew–that their elected representatives didn’t represent them.
“The scales fell from the peoples’ eyes when it came to county executives. The People’s Convention that summer declared the board of supervisors were corporate lackeys.
“The hot summer of 2023 was the beginning of everyday people taking matters into their own hands. That was the beginning of local stewardship of their precious groundwater. The people’s motto was: FUBU. For us, by us.”
